Rukshan Ahmed

Rukshan Ahmed  – The eldest of four children, Rukshan Ahmed, is a very active and talented little boy. However, without support from his father, his family depends entirely on his single mother. His younger sister was killed when she fell into a well whilst playing near their home and their mother is now forced to beg on the road along with her children to bring in enough money to feed her family..

Rukshan is the family’s great hope for the future – recently he passed his scholarship examinations with flying colours after preparing for the exam with the help of an oil lamp (the family has no electricity).

When he found out that he had won a PEF award, he was one of the happiest children the team has ever encountered because he knew this would mean he could study.

Stories like Rukshan’s are all-too common in Sri Lanka:
just a few pounds are enough to make a difference.
